It really helps to understand what fly fishing is all about. Did you know that it’s based on the lifecycle of aquatic insects? Who knew there were bugs that spend most of their life underwater?

In addition to learning about the major aquatic insect groups, and the flies that imitate them, you’ll also learn about the equipment: rods, reels, lines, tippet, etc. The lesson also covers the basic knots, personal conservation, plus casting and line management techniques.

A two-hour session the afternoon before your guided float trip, designed to maximize your significant investment in a day-long trip with a guide. Whether it’s an introduction to the basics of casting, or getting your “fishing legs” back after a winter (or a year) off, this refresher will help ensure that your time in the boat will be spent fishing, and minimize the amount of time without your line on the water.

FWO (for Women Only) Multi-Week Lessons: modeled after our local ski area’s long-time (and highly popular) instructional program, these lessons run for four consecutive weeks for two hours (either 10:00 AM to Noon, or 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM) each Thursday, in and around the Livingston/Bozeman area. Women have long known about and enjoyed learning in the social and supportive atmosphere that comes from skiing with other women—it’s time to experience that with fly fishing!

Half- or Full-Day Guided Wading Trips: Most guide services offer the standard full-day float trip; that is the ultimate fly fishing experience. However, sometimes anglers prefer to get out IN the water, and in beautiful backcountry not accessible by drift boat. (Plus, hiking and wading can be a great workout!)

Families that play together stay together. Book a half or full day session for the entire family to enjoy. Let the assistance of a guide keep the day running smoothly and spirits high while experiencing the art of fly fishing together.
